ICC CWC'11: Match 1: India vs. Bangladesh: Is Dhoni attempting to create a situation where Sreesanth can be thrown out?
The biggest event of the cricketing world has begun. And it is bigger than it has ever been with 14 teams participating in this edition. India for the first time is being touted as the clear favorite to win the world cup. And this is a special one as it might be Sachin's last on the field.
Yesterday was the first match - between co-hosts India and Bangladesh. Sehwag's superb 175 could not wash away the sin that he had committed by running Tendulkar out. It was an easy single that should have been taken. Even a double-hundred would not have helped his cause.
Virat Kohli's superb 100, the third fastest ever in a WC by an Indian, just proves why the debate on his inclusion was unwarranted. If Raina can gain an entry into the team, it is only as Yuvraj 's replacement.
Munaf Patel was on song with a brilliant 4 wickets.
Sreesanth went for plenty in the beginning and was, rather surprisingly, not given an opportunity by Dhoni towards the end of the match to regain his lost confidence. It seems that Dhoni was under pressure because of the public furore against Sreesanth's exclusion, and that is what made him call for Sreesanth. The rift between the two is evident - the captain of a team publically criticising his own opening bowler just a couple of days before their first match. Is Dhoni attempting to create a situation where Sreesanth can be thrown out of the team easily?
